Got to Samish around 6:30 am. Started throwing spinnerbaits, buzzbaits and green curly tail jigs on 1/4 jig heads. Caught a few dink smallmouth on the jig at the rocky point across the lake from the boat launch. Moved south along the west bank fishing docks and lily pads with a large green senko style plastic worm, and caught the large mouth in the picture. This large mouth was right next to the bank in shallow water next to some docks and lily pads. Continued south toward the end of the lake with nothing but annoying perch hits. Doubled back north of the point (still on the west bank) fishing docks, rocks, and lily pads. Water skiers began to wake up making the water too busy to fish a senko, so went back to the green jig, which continued to catch many dink small mouths. I had another large mouth get away (probably about 4 lbs. or so) on the jig. It was weird, it didn't fight much at all, but right when it got to the boat it went wild and jumped out of the water and threw the hook. This fish was in about 7 or 8 feet of water on the edge of a stretch of lily pads. Fished almost to the bridge, catching more dink smallmouth on the jig, and getting annoyed by perch. Crossed the lake to the east side where a creek spills into a little cove, where I caught a few more smallmouth on the jig. These smallmouth appear to have been schooling, if you caught one it was likely to have another swimming next to it all the way to the boat. I ended the day with a squawfish, which will not be biting again...
