Hit the opener on Baker Lake and learned that I need to camp up there to get an early start. Lots of others have better reports than me, but I had a couple of pictures I wanted to pass on. I left Kirkland at 5:00 and had lines in at 7:30, but didn't get any sockeye. I did hit two kokanee later in the day on red and blue hooks with power maggots... Go figure... I ran red, blue and black hooks behind 0 dodgers. At one point I tied one up with a uv pink squid.
I started fishing down below the bend of the lake and marked fish there, but no takers. By the time I moved up to Noisy Creek the bite was off and I just got some good tanning in. Did run into Rseas who had done well and got a pic of him trolling by. Also got checked early in the morning by the game wardens, who were quite nice about it, checked a couple of safety things and asked me to flash them my license. I had two poles out, with the endorsement, and they didn't make me pull them or come alongside, but chatted with me from about 15 feet out or so.
I did see one sockeye swimming slowly near the surface covered in fungus... My guess is it got injured on the truck ride or in the trap and then got the fungus at the injured sites...
May go back next weekend if I can figure out a camping plan. Great to hear other people's success...
