The rod: custom made 7 1/2 ft. 4 weight... The reel: okuma SLV... The line: RIO type 4 sinking... The leader: 7 ft. 5X... The fly: #8 olive wooley bugger with the tail trimmed short... The fish: 8 lb. brown trout (weighed on a berkley digital scale)... The fisherman: still in disbelief!

Wow! That's a genuine monster! That's a Godzilla trout if I ever saw one. HOLY Craleedo! Awesome. Hahahaha, I love it. I knew there were lunkers in that lake, but this one takes the cake!

I've seen Rainbow trout in that shape...but they were all triploids Well done.

That's what you call a reel fish, see how the pots goes with the fly reel!!!!! Seriously though its a german brown and an interesting one at that. Nice catch

That is one oddly shaped Brown Trout !. Must have been a all potato chip diet with a side of #8 olive whooly booger for dessert. Went back to view the picture and having trouble imagining the dimensions of that Gargantuan. Did you come close to having all the backing stripped off the reel at any point during the fight?

Thanks for the replies, guys. I found him lurking in about 18ft of water very close to the northeast shoreline. And yes, the tip of that 4wt was below the butt with the handle pointed straight up! Even guys like me get lucky sometimes, and I think I just used up a whole bunch of it!
BTW: the ramp is real good but real awkward if you're by yourself

Holy crap that's one of the fattest trout I've seen from these parts LOL. Must be a crawdad lover. That's a german brown? Guess they get uglier with age. On a 4 weight too- wow, that musta been pretty memorable! Awesome!
