Ran over to Newman again last night. I thought I would change my approach a little bit. Normally I go looking for Tiger Muskies and end up catching crappie to appease my fish catching urge. On this day, I was going crappie fishing. I started out fishing for crappie (see my next report) and had some success. While I was crappie fishing I tied into another muskie. I'm starting to think the only way I'm going to catch one of these bad boys is to put some tieable wire on my ultra light and catch one with a jig. I hooked a musky in a cabbage bed and the fight was on. He ran right and jumped about 2 feet out of the water. My rookie netters were too busy oogling the fact that I had a musky on and didn't net him when I first got him to the boat. He got me wrapped up in the weeds and I thought it was over. I put some pressure on him and managed to get him loose. He shot out of the water, about 3 feet this time and you guessed it. Broke the line. That one was abaout 26" or so. A bit later I started throwing a big spinner bait. After about 20 minutes of fishing I had a follow by a fish in the mid 30's and he would have nothing to do with the figure 8 at the boat. That was it for the muskies. Some day I WILL catch one over 14". Wish me luck. Happy Fishing
