I took my client Ed out this morning before work at MarDon Resort on Potholes Reservoir. It was very calm and hot. With water temps ranging 64-72F

We got out fairly late for this time of year at 6:30AM.We topwater fished the Dam in the morning for smallmouth and Ed hooked into a HUGE Smallmouth. It came clear out of the water and slammed his topwater. I wasnt looking and I thought it was just a carp splash. We fought it for a good 3 minutes and it came off after one last dive just out of net range. Was definitely over 5 lbs. but couldnt tell if it would have gone 6. We ended up catching a few on a Rapala Popper and roughly 15 on a Yamamoto tube. Biggest going 2.5 lbs.

Then we ran up into the Winchester wasteway area of the dunes and caught 5 post spawn Largemouth with the biggest one going almost 5 lbs. Ed lost one HAWG that was well over that, which took him into the brush and came off. We caught those in 2 feet of water on Yamamoto Senkos in Brown and 1/4oz Black n Blue Terminator Jig.

Overall fishing was pretty good considering how its been, the water is quickly starting to lower which means it is only going to get better. As this past 2 weeks has been tough for the LM because of the amount of water that is still in the reservoir. The Walleye Fishing has been pretty good too.

Come out to MarDon Resort on Potholes Reservoir and enjoy a great day out bass fishing! Book a trip within the next 2 weeks and recieve $30 in Rapala Lures!

Looks like you had a great time, where you using skitter pops ? (if yes what color) I haven't done any topwater bass fishing but I was gonna buy a skitter pop.

Yeah, the exact name of the popper vacated my mind when I wrote the report. It was just the one with the brown frog pattern on it with a white belly. I think any one with a white belly and dark sides would work.
