Hit Wilderness early this morning and started off at the dock. Things were slow as expected and not a person in sight to later in the day. Missed a good hit because i was stuffing my face with a bagel. Debated after 2 hours if i should head over to Meridian but wasnt feelin it so i packed up and moved to the "secret" location. Boy am i glad i did because things went from slow to slamin in no time.
Hooked up on two 10" rainbows in about 5 minutes and released them because they were covered in parasites. Then things got good. Rod got SLAMMED and pulled in a 16" fatty rainbow that put up a hell of a fight. Ten minutes later and BOOM another fish. Thought i had lost him right off the bat and as i tried to re-tighten my line i noticed it was stayin slack. So i reeled in and sure nuff he was still on there. The hook must have not been set well because i got him right up to the shore and he threw two head shakes and popped right off. Fish was atleast 14" and full of pep. Tossed back out and landed another 10" and then lost three fish in a row. Frustrated i gave it one more cast and WHOMP another 16" rainbow. After that i landed another small rainbow covered in parasites and then things went dead.
All the big fish hit on a power mouse. I used a green power egg with a pink gulp worm fished off the bottom with about a 6 foot leader. The smaller fish hit on rainbow power eggs. The key i think was finding deeper water. The pics dont do these fish justice. These fish are fat and thick with gorgeous pink/reddish flesh.
