After a great weekend of weather I was finally able to get away for a few hours so I headed to Lake Ki to give the evening bite a try. There were a few boats on the water when I arrived at 7pm and the sun was still out with a slight breeze at times. Water temp was 66.2 degrees F. My fish finder marked large schools of fish in between 30 and 50 feet of water at the north end of the lake. I trolled a few flies using a floating line with a sink tip and after about 30 minutes without a bump, I switched to a small chrome flasher and a wedding ring tipped with chartreuse power bait and started getting bites. I missed several bites and managed one nice trout to the boat before it spit the hook. The fishing wasn’t great but it was sure nice to be out on the water for a few hours of relaxation.

did you put your boat in here? Such a mariginal and unsafe boat launch. I was thinking Ki is a lake I have fished once, a million years ago and would like to go back and shot a lake video of. Maybe I will one of these days...

Mike,
I use to fish this lake all the time, until this years horrible trout plant. I did fish it once this year to confirm the horrible trout plant size and quanity. But as far as the boat launch goes, its still bad, and even worse on the deep side, the roots are sticking way out causing you to struggle between them.

Yea, the boat launch sucks, if you can count it as a boat launch. It would be nice if the county could just come by and black top the public right of way down to the water. It wouldn’t cost very much and it would make launching so much safer. It would also be nice if they dredged the first 10 feet of the launch so it was a little deeper. Currently, unless you back your vehicle half way into the lake, you end up dry launching from your boat trailer which sucks. The one fish I brought to the boat before it spit the hook was a decent sized plant, maybe 10 inches and it fought ok but it was the time on the water that was great, not the bite.
