We couldn't sit around any more, so we had to get out. We decided to try Chelan for some kokanee to see if the bite was still on, since it was such a short distance for us. We had our limit of 20 by 0930, on dodgers and apexes with corn. The fish are still very low in the basin, towards Lakeside. I say this because often on Memorial Day the Chelan kokanee are in the Mill Bay area, which they might be, but we didn't try there. Once we finished up our kokanee, we went after smallmouth, and found good numbers of active fish, well out from shore. Drop-shotting is the way to go, and put it in the biggest boulders you can find. My partner got on some of the feisty buggers, as shown in the attached picture. Water temps were still 54-55, probably because the water is still rising 4-5 inches per day (1088.87 today). Weather was very nice, in the 60's with light and variable winds. This makes for a relatively quiet holiday weekend on Chelan. Also, we did catch one laker, about 6 or 7 pounds, 29 inches long... stinky bugger.
