This report is actually for yesterday, 5-28-11. A buddy from work wanted to give kokanee fishing a try so we tried our luck at Lake Cavanaugh. Got to the boat launch around 8 a.m., launched his boat and headed towards one of the islands on the far side of the lake. Fish were surfacing around the boat so we tried casting lures for a little while. No luck casting so we decided to troll. We set 1 down rigger at 20ft and the other at 30ft and trolled wedding rings tipped w/ corn. First fish we got was a small cutthroat which was cool because I never caught cutthroat in a lake before, only in the river. Kept trolling around near the islands and caught another small cutthroat on a wedding ring. Changed lures up on 1 of the dr's to an apex trout killer tipped with corn. A while later the rod with the trout killer started to bounce. Got the fish to the boat and finally caught our first koke, which was pretty cool because we never caught one before. My buddy took the other rod with the wedding ring and put a frog flat fish on. A while later he landed another small cutthroat on the flatfish. We stopped fishing around 11 a.m. The fish were small and all released, but we had a pretty good first experience at kokanee fishing.

Fish the middle of the lake between the launch and the islands. I find that you get more cutts. near the islands, and the cutts. are usually small and squishy. For the kokes go with Pink colored any kind of Macks wedding ring type spinner. Not very deep, like 10-15'. It's a great lake, thanks for your report.

Cool thanks for the info. I was using a homemade red bead wedding ring (bought seperate parts) tied on flourocarbon leader and silver colorado blade. I will give the pink beads a try. Thanks again.
