American Lake 5-29-11
The lure of weighty Kokanee from American Lake had me preparing the boat, motor, and gear after work on Saturday. Motor ran after first pull while I was still in the driveway. It is about 8pm by the time I got everything ready. Change the time on my alarm to 3:59am. Tie up 2 new lures. Then I go to bed. I am trying to get there about 5:30am.
I awake at 5. Oopps, I forgot to set the alarm again.
I got to the fishing grounds and started fishing at 6:30am. Lowered both my rods down to 22 and 12 feet. I have the new pink lure on the new Pink Splatter Dick Nite Dodger. The deep one was the Bahama Mamma with my Bloody Mary. Less than 5 minutes I get a hit on the new pink lure but it doesn’t stick. I have to say that tying the larger hook in the back may have hindered my catching rate on this new lure. I was tired when I did it last night but thought I would try it any way. I lost about 3 fish but brought in 2 with it that way. Wannafish A Lure’s Bloody Mary brought in 3. At one point I had one fish in the net while reeling in another. The biggest fish was 13 inches long and maybe 7-8 inches all the way around its girth.
The weather was overcast without any wind. The lake was fairly busy with boats fishing but it wasn’t too crowded. I caught the fish at depths 13-26 feet in 46 to 70 feet of water north and northeast of the island.
