My brother and I got out to Chapman at 5am Monday. Walked around the left side of the lake from resort. There are several places to fish where the dairy cows don't drink so the water is not muddied up. Started off fishing 3 feet off the bottom, 30 feet out with orange power bait on an Eagleclaw razor sharp #8. Within 15 minutes my brother landed a 5 pound bow. After 3 hours we had 6- 4 to 6 pound bows. There are 3 important things to know about catching the big rainbows out of Chapman. First have a long handled net because of the 3 foot bank. Second leave some drag because when the bows see the bank, they do a 180 and head for the checker flag like at Talledega. And third and most important, spend extra time cleaning your hands off before baiting up because these big guys have sensitive noses. Had a great Bbq that day . Mark

Good report. Is the launch open at Chapman now or is it closed? We heard rumors earlier this year that indicated the launch/resort was closed.

The WDFW was paying the owner of Chapman Lake resort to allow the public to launch at no charge like a public access should be, but they were charging 5 dollars a boat so I checked on it, and guess who got in trouble? Just park anywhere and walk around the lake. The cows don't bite.

To clarify, the access to the resort is closed. Its a good walk in from the highway through the state land where the bluffs are higher than 3 feet. Mark - did you lose your BBQ cover?

Regarding the remark about the gate being closed and the long walk to the lake, if you know the area you would know there are 3 places where you can park within 100 yards, give or take, to the lake, and no I didn't loose my Bbq cover. Did you loose your ability to read Meskers map?.
