Took the day off and arrived at the lake around 7am. Only 2 other boats in the water, even though the weather was decent. Started trolling in the shallows with a sling blade and wedding ring. Lots of strikes and caught (and released) planter size fish. Went to a lighter rod and smaller lure and trolled for the larger fish. Water temp was a cool 56 but the fish seemed to be fairly active. Picked up a few on just a wedding ring, and then switched to a pink/white sling blade with small med depth shad colored rapala 18" behind the blade. Trolled it very slow and semi deep , 15-25ft. Picked up 2 aggressive fish 18 and 20 respectively. Released them. Finally caught a 23" 3.5lb solid rainbow. Because I was using a 5 ft ultra light rod ,it took a little longer to get in. Got it to the boat( didn't net it) got a measurement and scaled it, then released it. Spent about 3 hours on the lake. Weather changed and headed in. Fish seem to be a little sluggish but with some work were able to find them. When the water temps come up a little so will the bite. Had a great day of fishing and relaxing. Did talk to a game warden at the ramp and he will be there most of the year. For those who like to catch and release, be aware he will be watching what you use. Just a word from him.
Enjoy and take a kid fishing( mine were in school that day).
