Hate to make the first comment on my own report, but I forgot to say the bite on the plastics was weird. I missed both immediate resonse and let 'em take it hooksets. What worked was an accidental discovewry: I had to lightly tug (enough to make fish drop it on an average day), after which I could feel them shift it in their mouths, and only then set the hook. Worked every time that day. I'm not recommending it, but maybe if you are missing every strike, you could try it once. Trust me, it just seemed wrong EVERY time, but it worked, this time. It also seemed to cull the smaller fish, cuz every fish I caught that way was good sized. I'm guessing it was just the day and may never work again, but once is enough with fish like these. All were very prespawn, too. Good time for C&R.
