After I finished up a honey-do painting project, I changed out the plugs on the kicker, and did a bit of tweeking on the lil guy after a few trips of less than ideal performance from it. It was getting up close to noon by now, but the weather was excellent, and the lake looked to be fairly calm. So off to the launch I headed. Motored up by the best western and dropped down a red wedding ring behind a Mack's flashLite. Tipped the hook with some shoe peg and a white crappie nibble, and let it down to 20' or so. Rigged the other rod with a 000 flasher and a flashy silver fly that I had just put together. Again corn and nibble. Was in 45' of water now, and marking fish. Picked up a couple of silvers in the 9" range, but not getting bit like I was expecting. I was noticing lots of disturbance on the fish finder right on the bottom, and thought it was just weeds, but I got to paying more attention, and it looked more like condensed fish. I had now changed out to a chartreuse wedding ring, and dropped this down to the bottom. Bang, there went the rod, and up came another silver. The ball had a bit of weeds on it, but it was non stop action right on the bottom. Seemed any thing would get bit if it was down with the weeds. Limited out in short order. The kicker did great for the short time I was there, so will have to try again soon, just to be sure. LOL Most fish were caught in 35-45 feet of water, and scattered throughout the column, but for me today, hugging the weeds was the ticket. Air temp 69-70* with a water temp of 57*. When I cleaned the lil buggers, their gut was packed with tiny black larvae of some sort. Cindy cooked up some of them for supper, and they sure were good. The silvers are small this year, but they are all over the lower lake. hope to see some of y'all out there yankin some in. Remember the sunscreen and plenty of fluids.
