Got to the lake around 0630. Air temp was roughly 40 degrees, skies were partly cloudy, wind from the NW around 5 MPH. Water temps started around 48 degrees and peaked at 53 degrees after noon.
Wanted to concentrate on using chironomids more this spring, so I tied on a #16 brown with green rib chironomid and floated it eight feet under a strike indicator while anchored in about nine and a half to ten feet of water.
Took one rainbow about fourteen inches, pumped its throat and found it was eating on some #20 light green chironomids. Tied one on, floated it at the same depth, but no takers. Didn't catch anything until right around two o'clock on a #16 flashback pheasant tail nymph. This fish was right around ten inches. Both were tossed back for another day.
Left around three o'clock. It was a nice day to be on the water making sure the pontoon was still sea worthy. Good times...
