Eric Ferreira brought his boys, Benjamin and Philip out to fish with us on Roses Lake. The recent plant of triploids ratcheted up the excitement with bigger fish to be had. Fishing with flies, there were over 65 bites, they were able to catch and release some smaller fish and end with their limits after about 3.5 hours of work. Trolling Mack's smile blade flies or black wooly buggers with action disks worked best although we caught some fish on small broken back Rapalas too. What a great way for Dad to spend some with his boys and pique their interest in fishing!

Do the smile blades rest down near the fly like the action disk does? With a bead or something between smile and fly to eliminate interference. Was any weight used? If so, does the weight rest against action disc? Should be headed here very soon.

Yo yo Moto...: The smile blade flies actually have the blade installed on the shank of the hook on a bead so it spins freely. It works good. We use snap weights so we let 50 to 100 feet of line out then snap a 2 oz weight on. I then let line out until it touches once. We estimate that we're fishing 8 to 15 feet down. We are also fishing them off the downriggers at 13 feet with great effect. Anton
