Walked down to Green Lake yet again to spin cast from shore. First cast was about 05:50, from the paddle boat dock. Started working clockwise down the east shore. Made it all of the way to the south end shell rowing docks and stadium without a bite. But, finally, I see a follow and strike on my trout patterned kastmaster. Doubled-back on my path to head counterclockwise to meet up with my good-luck sister-in-law. Found one gentleman at the 64th street t-dock with a fine collection of 4 planters caught on powerbait.

Not too far up the shore from there, at about 09:00, I start getting some good action on the kastmaster. First strike got away. Next two strikes I landed, both 8 inch planters, and released. Then I got bit by maybe an 11 inch brown. He was hooked deep, and was bleeding, as you can see in the picture, so had to keep it.

Ran out of time at that point so went to eat breakfast at the Red Hen this time. No rain this time, a little breeze, many other anglers, but only shell rowers on the water. Speaking of boating, I took the time to photograph one of the signs to prove that there is the no motor rule, and with the 2 hour limit! Don't think the city wants us fishing from boats much on this lake.

Good to see you building up a Sat. morning tradition, and also giving back to the local breakfast economy! You can find me many a time at the Red Hen, but it is usually in the wee hours of 1:00 am. I need to keep my cell by the night stand, thanks for the text.

I think the sign actually only applies to the boat landing zone - they don't want boats occupying the landing zone for more than 2 hours. I also haven't seen a restriction anywhere else about non-motorized craft. Are you sure these aren't just the rules that apply to the boat landing zone?

I would bet money that these signs -- and there are many of them around the lake -- apply to not just the landing zone. There are signs like these along the Lake Washington too. I did call a Seattle city office who verified the no-motors part on Green Lake. Despite these signs, I still see boaters out for more than 2 hours, and trolling with electric motors too. Maybe the shell rowing guide people might turn some in, or people on shore might be a hero and make the call, but I doubt much of that happens. Please feel free to verify my findings and bets, and report back. And you probably can test the rules/enforcement yourself by getting out there and troll from time to time.

I called Seattle Parks and Rec. You're right that trolling motors are not allowed on the lake. However, regarding the 2 hours limits, that only applies to the boat landing zones - you can stay in your non-motorized craft on the lake for more than 2 hours.

Ok, that is very good to know. Thank you!

I had to e-mailed the GL small craft center to figure that one out too. The 2hr limit part of the sign is confusing, that would'v e sucked to only have 2hrs out there!
