I finally got a chance to take out my bro Zach Comtsock (wilcomsto) on this site and his cuz Wert to Moses Lake to see if the walleyes where indeed hitting at the Alder Street fill. We arrived about 45 minutes before dark and I took the dozen or so cars parked by Baskin Robbins as a good sign that the walleyes were running. I began casting various colored grubs and tubes as Zach set up Wert with a chartruse grub. A guy just down from me hooked into a big walleye but unfortunately he got a little slack in his line and the fish came off. This was a pretty consitant theme for the remainder of the night. We moved over to the point on the East side and I got to talk and fish with retired game department fish hatchery manager Art Brown and his son. I changed over to a Mocha Red Flake Outlaw brand tube jig and made a short cast. I felt a solid tap, set the hook hard and was soon inro my first walleye of the year! That fish was as strong as any I have ever had on my line, a solid 5 pounds and Wert went to get the net. I managed to pull her up to the bank and to my dismay Wert tried to net her tail first. A little mistake because the hook popped free and she slowly swam away. It appeared to be a hen full of eggs, so I would of released her any way...( a photo would of been nice.) Zach hooked a nice fish on the same color jig soon after, but it too got in the current and came off. I would of liked to have given this trip at least a 3 but all in all very few fish were caught and the couple we actually saw were small males. I'll be back three days before the full moon to try again. Jiggy
