Fished Coffee Pot for the first time in about 2 years. Weather cooperated. It was cold and overcast but didn't rain until I got the boat out around noon. Went to the usual haunts along the high rock walls on the southwest side of the lake. No fish there on the finder! Normally this time of year there are too many to count. I did find a small pocket of sizeable trout at about 20 feet on the opposite side of the lake in one small cove. I hooked one nice fish but he spit the hook on a leap out of the water as I avoided getting pushed into some rocks by the wind. I got 2 other strikes on chartreuse and pink flies behind leaded line but went home empty handed.

Thanks for the report, I see that Coffee Pot is not quit ready yet. No fish on the finder for that lake means they were sitting on their bellies, right on the bottom. Tough fishing.

Get you get a water temp and how clear was the water? Also, how is the water level compared to the high water level on the rocks?

Chartrues is the wrong color this time of the year in my experience. The water is fairly clear for this lake right now. Think more natural colors. Black, brown, dark green and you should nail them.

Keep it shallow, too. In my experience, trout will occupy the warmest water, ie the shallows. That's where most food will be found early season. I used to slap em silly out there early, in 6-10' of water, within 100-200 yards of the launch. Snow cone chironomid patterns and blood worms under an indicator. As the water warmed, hatches would begin to materialize out deep, and that's where I would get them.

Remember that the perch should be spawning about now, and that provides an easy food source. Try a perch Matuka.
