Fished Samammy on Saturday, started off trolling by the creek, marked alot of fish and bait, missed one and never got another bite for hours.so moved down twards the weather station found the fish on top at about 10 ft.fishing in 100 ft of water picked up the 4 and a a koke.and we missed and lost a bunch, once found the fish was really quick bites just kept going in circles in same spot and they just kept jumping and falling off .seems to happen alot on lead line and they jump allways have that slack in the line.other than that was good day untill the rain and wind came....will be back next weekend! if dont go for springers hehe....

Hanapaa - you are correct, Lake Sammamish has been closed to the retention of Kokanee for quite some time.

Fishalot,
Nice catch on the cutthroat, but you should know that the Lake Sammamish Kokanee is an Endangered Species, WDFW has been working on having them listed for a few years now. Please take time to Google Lake Sammamish Kokanee and educate yourself and others on the peril of this prized fish that is very near to being an extinct species.

Never assume that statewide regs apply to the body of water you are about to fish, check the regs to be sure! If you don't have a paper copy, there is a link under the "HOME" tab on washingtonlakes.com that will take you straight to them. The PDF document that comes up is even searchable, just type in sammamish in the search field and it will find all entries of that word leading you right to the lake's special regulations.

Bad form on the Kokes. You should know the regs when you go fishing.

I don't fish Sammamish and not sure on the regs for the lake, but I know that if what everyone is saying on Koks being off limits, I count 3 in your pic.

was not aware couldnt keep a koke from sammamish.guess my bad for not checking regs first ,was my first trip there and figured that regs were same as washington cause they are connected by slu.thanx for the info wont harm another.and only one was a kokanee i have caught many cutts, sockeye- kokanee .whatever i can determine the difference from any fish that lives in the northwest. i fished here my whole life and also fish for a living wich makes me even more embarassed for keeping that fish and not checking regs.i was truly supprised i caught it ,i had no idea that they even were in sammammish.wont happen again.feel like a poacher!!:( ouch. giong out there today ill take pics to prove what is what next time....

Fishalot, thanks for manning up and letting folks know it was an honest mistake. For everyone's information - right now there is a slot limit on kokes in Lake Washington, 12" to 15" are keepers anything longer or shorter needs to be released. During any season a koke over 15" caught in Lake Washington is considered a sockeye and must be released.

Fishalot,
Thanks for being honest!!!!!!!!! I don t think enough people know that these kokanee are in trouble. The information should be posted at the boat launch so people know and so extra care can be taken if someone accidentaly catches one while fishing for the other species of fish in the lake.It is our responsibility as anglers to protect our fisheries and this website is a perfect arena for getting information out to the people who fish this particular lake. Thanks again and Good Luck out there.
