Wanted to see if we could get one more ice fishing trip in this year. I haven't ice-fished in March since growing up in Montana. So my friend and I took his oldest boy (the younger one decided he didn't want to go.....but then .... he says he changed his mind but forgot to tell us :-) and off we went. The bite was sporadic but adequate to produce enough for a multi-family fish taco night. The snowshoes were critical since the snow is probably knee deep on the lake, on top of about 6 inches of slush. The ice is there but probably won't last long under all that weight and daytime temps in the 40's. Todays temps were nice....I actually felt warm for the first time in awhile. It was a beautiful day all told, except for losing my all time best and favorite ice fishing rod.....I never leave it on top of the rig but this time I did, and drove off too excited for the upcoming fish fry and taco party.
