As usual, arrived at 7:30. Jerry, Mike, Jim and Howard already bunched up and fishing their usual spot. Lots of perch already on the ice. I chatted with these guys momentarily then headed out another 50 yards or so. I'm always one to avoid a crowd!
Punched one hole in 45' of water. Nothing for first 5 minutes, so began drilling another about 10 steps away. While drilling this hole some flipped the switch and I got my first take. Moving back, I got this perch and didn't have to leave that hole again. In the next hour, I got take after take, getting two dozen nice perch, most of which were 8-9" keepers. It was the best, continuous bite I'd experienced out of a single hole. The action slowly tapered off in the next 30 minutes, causing most of us to pack it in between 9:45 and 10:00.
Fish are still taking perch eyes and maggots, but seem to prefer smaller ice jigs and glow jigs as of late, versus the Kastmasters and Swedish Pimples that reigned supreme in January.
