So I was amazed to learn that waitts is open till feb 28 so yesterday I set out to go fish it through the ice ................. we arived around 9 am and found that my wife and I had forgot our sons heavy coat which was ok i guess cuz we had taken an ice tent to keep the wife and kid warm fished all day using blue & white tube gigs, red & gold, white, black, black & silver, i through everything at it and nothing not even a bit i even tried corn, maggots, and worms on plain hooks, on the jigs it just didn't matter there was no bit to them at all yesterday ....................... other then no fish we had a great day it was beautiful day the sun was shining little to no wind and well its just gorgious up there so i don't know if anyone has a better way to fish waitts that produces plz let me know

I have fished waitts my entire life. As far as ice fishing goes, if you want better luck you have to go to the north side of the lake. The area off the boat launch is shallow and not as many fish hang out there. If you go to the north side you are more likely to get some nice browns, cats, and big perch. We use many different things. The one thing that always delivers is a "gitzit jig" and if you are coming up through loon lake, stop at the store there and they have them there. Maggots work on the gitzit jigs with a little crawfish juice. Also just a hook, indicator, and rainbow powerbait does the trick for some nice rainbows. Hope this helps! Theres fish there, nice fish, just gotta know where and what!
