Had my best outing at Eloika yet (sorry you had a rough one today, Aaron). I wasn't sure I'd do well since I totally missed the morning bite and decided to make a go of it anyways. Fished 1315-1600. Made a beeline straight from the public launch to just west of Jerry's Landing in search of that 15ft trough. Still didn't find it. Fished 11.5-12.5ft of water; At least it wasn't as weedy where I fished today. Caught and released a few dink perch, took home 4 keepers. Got really excited when I caught my first big crappie. Got him to the surface, but my line was tangled in the sonar cable. Removed the sonar out of the hole, and out popped my lure. No!!!!! Luckily it was a small hole, and he couldn't immediately turn around to dive back down. I reached my hand in and scooped him out really quick. Glad I didn't lose him. I didn't think crappie got that big out here; Now I know why ya'll target 'em. Later on caught two largemouth; One of 'em was also the biggest largemouth I've ever caught - which isn't really that big (since I've never fished for bass). It was a hoot seeing him on the sonar make a fast dash from the bottom up to intercept my lure. Eloika certainly is a largemouth lake. Not a single grass pike/pickerel today. Nice. Hot lures today were the silver/green 1/12oz kastmaster and a 1/8oz clown jigging rap. Can't imagine fishing without my sonar now; Defintely made all the difference between catching fish and not. Certainly a lot of sniiffers who came up to check things out, but weren't interested in the offerings.
