Fished Eloika 0920-1400. Made the trek from the public launch almost all the way to Jerry's Landing. Was in search of that 15ft trough, but couldn't find it. Fished with the sonar today, which made a big difference despite all the weeds. With the sonar I was able to jig above the weeds (and not lose my lures), although the weeds topped all the way to the 6ft mark in 11ft of water. Fished from 2.5ft of water to 11ft of water (albeit usually only the top 4-6ft of 11ft of water). Caught 11 pickerel, 1 bass and 2 perch; Those pickerel are all over the place.
Best lure today was a 1/12oz silver/blue kastmaster tipped with a fake maggot. Next up was a Lindy Genz worm tipped with a single fake maggot.
Fishing trailed off when the morning ended; Sun was bright, high and hot. Fishing REALLY died out when the three motorcycles, ATV/snow plow and two airplanes started making their way around on the lake. Seriously, TWO AIRPLANES were practicing landing on the ice; They would land one after the other, run the length of the lake, then take off again, circle around and repeat. Crazy.
Final note, I was just thinking that the pickerel aren't listed as game fish or food fish; Technically that would mean they are a closed season fish, right? Although northerns and tiger musky are listed, pickerel aren't mentioned (probably cause Eloika's the only lake with 'em?).
