Buddy and I went out there on Thursday. We were both running a wedding ring with maggots/corn (Gulp stuff) on our DRs. We found schools at 25 feet and 40-45 feet in a few places, but they wouldn't bite. Just before sunset the kokanee (he swears they were kokes, I personally couldn't tell) were schooling at the surface and flipping around a good bit. Nothing ever hit our DR lines, but I got two really strong hits on my surface line (vibrax blue fox #3 in blue/silver).

The smaller of the two hits resulted in an 18" rainbow that sprinkled the deck of my kayak with blood. My 6 year old princess helped me fillet him the next night, and thought it was really cool (and gross) that he had a belly full of bugs.

The kokes are on the surface at Lake Washington, you can see them jumping all over the place. With the water surface temps below 60 degrees, nothing is stopping them from roaming the entire water column in search of food. They will be wherever the plankton can be found and this time of year it will be close to the surface to get as much of the remaining sunlight as possible. When the water temps plummet into the 40's that's when they will head back down again. Where you running anything in front of the wedding ring like a dodger?

I was running a Seps kokanee pro-troll in front of it. My buddy was running some other type of flasher. Also, I forgot this earlier, but while I was cutting the gills of the rainbow, I got hit by something huge (probably another rainbow) on the downrigger line, the wind was moving me fast enough that it was still active. Anyways, it popped off the DR and took off, started to move my yak, but by the time I could get to my pole, it was too late. I felt a couple could head jerks and it was gone :-\ Snake, the trout fishing is always spotty at AL, but if you're loud, it's non-existant. I do decent, and fly fisherman do really well (my trout was full of bugs) guys drinking and making noise generally go home empty handed, or with a few dumb planter trout.
