Having acquired a couple mini cut plug baits yesterday, I decided that I’d give them a try and see what the Lake Washington cutts think of them. Slimy Slab joined me at the Newport launch around 9:00am and we were fishing shortly thereafter starting just north of the I-90 overpass. I started out dragging a mini cut plug lure using a 3 oz snap weight to get my gear down to where I though the fish might be patrolling. It took no more than 5 minutes before my rod was doing the fish-on dance and shortly thereafter yielded a nice cutt. Next fish came on Slimy Slab’s Apex and turned out to be the large cutt of the day at a little over 3.5lbs. I had a nice cutt release itself after jumping a few times and Slimy Slab released a koke at the boat before we picked up and headed for the west tip of Mercer Island. Although the area held plenty of bait, I only picked up one more cutt before we needed to head back to the launch. I dropped off my fishing partner and headed back out for another hour of fishing in the Newcastle Beach area. This area yielded a nice 3.5lb smallie in 35’ of water and one more cutt about 50’ down. The weather was perfect, with nary a breeze early on and picking up a bit out of the south in the early afternoon. Surface temps were between 54 and 55 degrees and the waters were clear with little to no “salad” in the areas we fished. Overall I was pleased by the mini cut plug’s performance, it seemed to do fine fished by itself with only herring scent added to the body cavity.

Is that one of those "Brad's plug herring baits" can't quite tell. It's nice to see/hear of other gear that has produced cutts. I picked up a couple of those "Cyclops' spoons this week. They look something like a Dick Nite. Nice action.

It is a Brad's Superbait Cut Plug in the new 3" mini size. This year alone I've caught cutts on Hoochies, Apex lures, Needlefish, Hot Shots, Canadia Wonder spoons, McMahon Spoons, stacked bead spinners and herring. I may have missed one or two, but the point is that if you get your gear in front of a cutt and properly present it, your likely to get bit.

Sweet , I went bought me few diffrent styles. If you dont mind me asking did you just run a bead , then swivle and hook? single hook or doubble ? thanks

Size 1 siwash, crimped to an 80lb barrel swivel, tied to 5' of 12lb fluorocarbon leader. A single bead to protect the knot on the business end and a bead chain to attach to your main line. I'm going to tie up a couple for the salt using a double siwash hook rig I saw on video recently, will see how that works.

Where do you buy your lures? The places I shop at around the north end dont seem to stock stuff like a mini Brads Superbait Cutplug. I miss GI Joes.

I picked up mine at Sportco on the way back north after hitting the Lamiglas warehouse sale and stopping at a few rivers in the area. Outdoor Emporium may have them but I'd call to check availability first. You can probably place an online or phone order with Hooked on Toys and Sporting Goods out of Wenatchee. Also give Ted's in Lynwood a call to see if they have them or plan on having any in the near future. The best deal, money wise, is buying the 2 pack unrigged. Only issue is that your limited to about 8 patterns, if you by the single packed pre-rigged, you get around 30 patterns from which to choose.

Thanks, I go to Teds pretty regular. I live in Bothell so Sportco is a long trip, Outdoor Emporium isnt close either..
