Caught the brown trout bug after catching a nice one last outing at Medical. Two more days before the lake closes, weather looked alright, so I thought I'd try for some more. Well, the weather was NOT nice by the time I got to the lake... way cold and rainy. Fished from ~12:00-1600. Started off with a selective-gear compliant in-line spinner without any luck. Switched to a 1/4oz silver cleo with a single barbless red-hook and caught the brown below - nice fight. Had quite a few follows and saw some pretty big browns in the water. Only one other hook-up but lost him with the drag too loose. Glad I toughed out the weather. Saw evidence of illegal fishing (worm remnants) and did some trash pickup on my way out. There are trash cans everywhere - why can't people pickup their trash? Also, saw 4 pairs of white socks in the area I was fishing Who's losing their socks?

Beautiful, healthy looking fish, Jay. From the markings it looks like a tiger trout (brown/brookie hybrid). Nice catch!

@steehall - You're right! I can't believe I missed that. I'd caught tigers out of Fish Lake before, and they had the same patterns but were sorta greenish and yellow in color. I wonder if they change color in the fall/winter. Interesting... now I gotta look back at the report/fish I caught last time I was there to make sure if that was a brown. I wonder if there are brook trout in Medical lake for the browns to spawn with...

Beautiful fish! That's a typical Medical Lake brownie. The tigers in Medical are colored up with lots of silver and gray, have very few if any spots, and have a mottled appearance like camouflage. Many will have those faint, vertical stripes that give them their name. Ditto for those I got in Fish Lake. No brookies in Medical, or trout spawning going on for that matter. All fish are planted by the WDFW.
