I heard about the good reports from the last few days so I was very excited about getting on the water and do some fishing. As I was launching my boat I noticed 4 -5 boats trolling for salmon. I didn’t see anybody with fish, but I didn’t ask also. Got a couple friends with me and started fishing around 9:30 trolling in front of Kirkland. Lost a small one at the boat after 20 minutes of fishing, and hooked another one an hour later. We took a lunch break around 1pm and back on the water around 2 pm. We trolled this time along 520 and then north side toward Evergreen point with no more take downs. Slow day for me. We used cut plug herring and small squid different colors trolling from 20 to 60’ down on the downrigger in 60 to 120’ of water. Before we returned to the boat launch we decided to fish for perch and we had a bit more luck with it. Got about 15 of those and we got out of the water at 5pm. Tight lines.

What are the identifying features of cutthroat? It looks like a rainbow to my unexperienced eyes...

Lake WA. cutt's jaw bone extends beyond the eye. The even black spotting like the fish pictured is classic also. The degree of red slashes under the jaw can be different with different species of cutthroat, and the time of year, etc. Some people swear that without obvious slashes under the jaw that is isn't a cutt. Not true.
