Had a very quick one night visit over to Banks lake. Went with a friend and both of our boys. I have never even been to banks before, so didn't really know the what and where of fishing. We stayed at Steamboat state park just because it's nice. We had a very short time on the water of maybe 2 hours. (Sometimes hard to keep 11 y/o's entertained with fishing, if it's not fast and furious)
We trolled some walleye lures, can't remember the name, sorry. Trolled a rooster tail behind a small flasher. My son caught a small lmb on the rooster tail. He also caught a perch. We spent most of our time on the far side of Steamboat. We sat about 50' from shore along the huge rock slides. What a beautiful place this. I did a little drop shotting here, and had a couple hits, but no fish to the boat. We were told that the walleye were being caught in this opposite side of Steamboat, but not for us. Honestly don't know thing one about walleye fishing.. We were just trying to put the kids on anything. Next time in this area I expect to hit the Chain lakes... Deep lake, Park lake, etc. Had a little scare on the way over there though. My oil bath bearings on the trailer started a small leak. After about 1 hour of Hwy. driving, I found evidence of the leak. I have heard horror stories of people' bearings freezing up. Fellow WALAKE er, KZOO was nice enough to do a little internet info. search while I was driving, via the cell phone.
The rig made it back home safely. Time for some service on those bearings.
