Had to head out to Newman lake today to look at some decoys and decided I'd get a line wet while I was in the area. I set sail around noon today for the 2nd time ever (first time I was ice fishing). I only was out for about 3 hours 1 of which I spent driving around checking out the weed lines and looking for potential crappie hiding places. Mainly for this winter and next spring. The other I spent playing fetch and watching my dog swim. I'm still trying to find a place to Ice fish and catch some nice crappie. I ended up splitting my time crappie/musky fishing because I couldn’t resist. I didn’t manage to catch either of these but I did boat one decent LMB and one little 12incher that had a 3 inch perch that was still alive in his mouth. I did see one really nice swirl in about 10 inches of water when I was pulling my in the process of pulling the boat on shore so my pup good go for a swim. I'd say it was a Tiger for sure by the size but after reading reports of people catching Pike this lake I can't. Both bass bit on spinner bait.
Tight lines

Thus far, only two pike have been reported caught. WDFW actually put some net time in a week or so back, and didn't turn up any pike. That is a good thing. Hopefully the pike that was caught was the same as before. Maybe the next to catch it will make sure it doesn't make it back into the lake....... As much as I like pike fishing, Newman is not the place for them. Email me if you would like some ideas on where to catch some good crappie through the ice......
