Well, I wish I could say today’s trip was a repeat performance from yesterday’s but unfortunately I cannot. We were on the water for day 2 of Baker Lake Sockeye at 5:00 am and in the dark we motored out to Noisy Creek where we joined maybe 4 or 5 other boats who were early arrivals. Out first fish came at 5:30 and our second came for me at 6:15 and that was it. About 7:30 I had another takedown and at the boat the fish spit the hooks. Other than a few other strikes that did not result in a hook up, we trolled with over 50 other boats, all searching for these fish, that bit so well just yesterday which allowed us to get all 6 before leaving at 10:30 am. So we left with 2 nice fish at 10”15 as the wind started to kick up. It was cloudy and overcast. We trolled the same chrome dodgers and red hooks with sand shrimp and shrimp smelly jelly at between 45 and 60’, in 165 feet of water. We fished closer to shore and out in the middle as did many others but finding a fish that was willing to bite served to be the challenge. We saw a few boats net a fish but nothing like yesterday when most were catching. As I write this report, my 2 from yesterday’s trip minus a small fillet, is in the smoker. Today’s fish will be there tomorrow morning.
