Had the chance to drop by Gene Coulon Park this morning enroute to work. There were two older gentlemen fishing when I arrived next to Ivars.

I tied a count down minnow on my casting rig and swam it over the weeds for about five minutes and there were no followers or takers. One of the guys landed a cute blue gill.

Next I grabbed by spinning rod that was rigged with the drop shot and fished to the left of the guy who caught the blue gill. I felt a hit right after my first twitch and pulled up a nice looking smallmouth.

Not five minutes later and hook into and land the second smallie. It was about the same size.

I lost the worm so I plopped on a tube. A perch kept attacking it and hunted it down relentlessly. It was actually cool to watch it try to eat the tube.

Alas, time was up. I had to yank it away and head out.

Although it was a short fishing stint, it was fun and the two gentlemen (one asian and the other african american) were a pleasure to talk to and fish with. In my short time the former caught 4 blues and the latter caught a squaw.

Peace.

I am not familiar with the "drop shot" technique. Can you describe how that is done?

It is a simple rigging method that many bass anglers like to use. It is not new but it has been refined by bass anglers to suit their needs. I'll send you a PM.
