Had a Mariners/Red Sox game to go to in the evening so Joey and I decided to try Cranberry Lake for something new and close to home. Had our lines in the water at 7:30 on this cool, foggy morning and I had barely set my rod in its holder and was enjoying the view across the lake when I heard my rod fall down flat against a rock. I picked it up, set the hook and it came to a dead stop. This was a big fish! All I got to feel was 3 or 4 shakes of his head and my line went slack. Broke me off. Son of a Pig Duck!

About 1/2 an hour later Joey caught the first fish (she was up by 5 bucks). Nice and chubby 13 incher. Half and hour after that she caught its near twin. I caught my first about 20 minutes after that and it looked to be the bigger of the 3 but we were just guessing & I was hoping I wouldn't owe her 10 bucks.

Once the sun burned through the fog the bite died so we moved over the the fishing dock by the Park entrance just for something different. In another hour of fishing I managed to catch 2 more 11-12 inchers and then the some guys with R. C. sailboats decided to have a Regatta from the dock so we decided to call it a day. I did manage to retrieve a fishing pole from about 10 feet of water. There was this family fishing next to us and one of the girls (age 8 or 9) dropped on one of her casts and after 10 minutes or so I was able to snag the line and fish it out for her.

Back at my place when I set our fish side by side in the sink to clean them it was obvious that Joey had the biggest fish too so even though I out fished her 3 - 2 (finally!), once again I'm out 10 bucks. Though not fast and furious, the fishing was consistant and this being our first time on this lake it was a good trip. The bonus was the Mariners won that night, again Finally!

Nice report... I'll be camping up there end of August. Last yr I had pretty good luck catching small mouth before the sun hit the water. I hope to repeat that experience.

Thanks. There were lots of places I could see from shore that looked very bassy. Hope you do well and let us know how you did!
