Went to Loon the other night and had no success on the kokes. On two other occassions in the last month we had very good luck on kokes. We were inundated with bluegills and at times couldn't even get the bait to the depths where the kokes would be as the bluegills would intercept the bait as it went down. Anyone else have problems with too many bluegills. We were not fishing in the Granite pt area. Are there tons of bluegills over there too. Also noted on this trip that we caught rainbows instead of kokes as did other boats around us. We didn't want the rainbows. Anyone have any ideas on what we are doing wrong? We were in our regular 30 ft or so of water so should we have moved into deeper water?

There does seem to be more bluegill in Loon Lake this year and I don't ever recall hooking as many in the past while night fishing for kokanee. We have been fishing near Granite Point and this seems to be the case there as well. Most of the bluegill appear to stay in the middle and top of the water column at the 30 to 35 foot depths so you can try fishing a little deeper for kokanee or try using a heavier setup to get it to the bottom quicker. Better luck next time.

Yeah i just got back from Loon (it's 1:45 am) and we didn't do well either. Caught 2 trout (1) 20"Rainbow & (1) 18" Tiger Trout. Only a handful of Bluegills though. We were in our usual spot (30-35) ft of water north of Granite Point. I didn't even hear any other boats catch anything. ?? What happened?? Everybody's been slaying them all summer. -William
