Not even sure where to begin.....Probably one of the best fishing trips of my life, well maybe.
Heres the rundown- Arrived at Kapowsin around 1PM with my son and several rods for several species.
Got in the boat and worked a few areas adjacent to the island in search of bass with a spinnerbait. Gave that about 30 minutes
and then on to perch(trying to keep my son interested)worm and bobber. Had the worm about 2-2 and a half feet from the bobber
in depths of 6-12 feet. (NOTE),once you hit depths of 5 feet or less, you will be overloaded with rock bass. Caught loads of perch, most averaged 8 inches but a few much larger ones were caught. All perch had nice firm bellies. We easily caught/released 40.
During this time,we got a nice visit from a pair of A-10 Warthogs, they made 2 low passes over the lake(Very cool)
I then tried a few crankbaits for bass, had a few follows from little tikes. I got snagged on a stump, motored over and removed the lure. Then saw another lure and grabbed it,as I began to pull it up. I see a catfish was tangled up. The fish was so wrapped up that I eventually had to motor back to Erickson's to get proper tools. Catfish are rare here,so I was determined to try to get him back.
Anyhow, after 30 minutes of operating on the cat,he was finally free. Line was everywhere,in his mouth-through the gills and wrapped tight around his body. I left him in the bucket for awhile to see how he would do. We were able to release him healthy
and karma would pay us back within minutes.
I slapped on a popper and decided to just make a few casts from the dock. First cast resulted in our first bass of the day(2lbs)
2nd cast, another bass...followed by another and another. No joke, back to back to back. Finally hooked a beast but lost him around the logs and he spit the hook.Maybe I'm running on more dumb luck but I'll take it.Today was all about topwater for bass.
All fish released. Sorry for the grainy pic,its a cellphone
