So our relatives who are local wanted some fresh fish, and I suddenly had a good reason to target the lake trout! Yippee!
I started the day by myself at Mack Bar. Set up on a fish and dropped down, it hit but didn't hook up, then took off. The second set up was on two fish. Dropped down and got a solid hit. Brought a 30 inch 10 pounder to the boat.
Seemed like it would be a good day. I can usually catch lake trout when I don't want too many, but now that I did, they were going to play hard to get. Only tried 3 or 4 more fish on the Bar, and none of them hooked up.
Tried some exploring down lake of the bar with no luck, then headed up lake. Caught a second fish about 4 pounds up by the rock slide, then had to head in. The winds were kind of swirling, which I think makes it hard for my technique to be successful. At one point I was getting blown uplake at the Yacht Club when usually the current alone there will move you slowly down lake...
Anyways, I was able to deliver some fresh fillets, and then packed the boat up for the trip back to the West side until next year... Now it is Chinook time in the salt water!
