Cindy had the day off, so up to Rufus Woods we went. Launched at the corps launch at Chief Joesph Dam, and arrived at the lower most pens around 0900. The ride up river was spectacular. Smooth water and clear skies. Arrived at the pens and started casting above the pens and drifted with the current to right above the pens. No hits, so we slow drifted down along the pens casting toward the pens and letting the jigs drift. Several hits and released a couple. Trolled back up along the pens, 30 yards or so out, but didn't get any takers. Used spinners, spoons, jigs, crappie tubes, and several types of flies, but the black jig was the fav for me today. We started noticing fish rising along the outside of the upper portion of the pens, so started working that area with jigs. I had good luck with a 1/16oz black marabou with red tinsel in the tail. Had to work it slow and deep. Used a 1/8 oz jig for a while but only got one fish with it. Cindy used her standby of 1/16oz jighead with plastic immitation grubs and minnow to get her limit. We had appointments to get to, so we left the area around 1230. Saw several other boats fishing, anchored and plunkin, and trolling. Saw one other fish boated by the plunkers. There was fish activity, but I think if we could have stayed, there would have been an afternoon bite. we could see fish cruising on occassion also. We had a good day of catching, but the largest was 5# 2oz. There were larger fish looking, but didn't take. Tight lines and sharp hooks to all.

howdy lewis.. it sounds like you guys had to work for the fish you got also. the fish are definately finicky and i think we'd see more action with a better flow running in the river. you two are the jigging kings. i'm still working on getting that down. glad you had a great day. it sure is nice cruising there.

Thanks for the comments guys, Seems I always have to work harder for the Rufus Woods fish when the weather/water warms up. Still a great place to go fishin.
