Try mornings or evenings (sunrise and sunset) and bring a book - in my experience, patience is key when it comes to carp,

7/14/2010 11:17:00 PMYup, i agree with both reasons. So I try to use a very small sinker, avoid the high visibility lines. I've only caught three and (lost two for sure) so far, so i'm no expert by far. And in most cases, i didn't know that i had anything on the line until it reacted to my line retrieve and took off. the latest one was at a dock in a bed of a milfoil, which may it unfishable for nearly everything else. With corn, toss a couple freebies out with your line. But too much will attract rock bass and they will take over the area. the times i got skunked, just kept pulling in rock bass that developed a taste for corn.
