My second attempt to catch a carp was successful! Early in the week, i had a carp or some huge fish that broke my line mere seconds after setting the hook. I was determined to try again and remember to set the drag right. Put my line in and listened to music for 20 minutes. Picked up the line to check and realised, fish on! Good thing i remembered to bring the landing net and a good samaritan helped me land it. 6 lb common carp. I was so excited i re-rigged the line and put it back in the water and put the pole down down to clear up my area. But on some good advice, i left the bail open. I glanced over and my line was racing off the reel! fish on! This one felt much heavier and took the line very far out. For a while it didn't budge and i was really worried it snagged up on a branch or rocks. The fish then turned and headed up the shoreline from me with another chance to snag up on bushes and fallen branches. Fortunately after what seemed like ten minutes it started to give up and come back to me and the cheering section of green lake strollers. With the net ready, i landed myself this time, and it was indeed bigger, 10 lb carp! I'm using a light graphite bass rod with 8lb line. After that i got a couple more fish but they were small crappie and scuplins.

Awesome! Thanks for posting. You know as I release my catch these days I've been thinking about fishing for "trash" fish like carp. Nice to hear someone else is way ahead of me.
