I have been fishing Downs Lake since 2001 and I have never seen so many crappie in my life until this last Friday and Saturday. I came close to the limit on Friday (7), and Saturday (6) all well over the 9" mark at 12" and 14". Just casting from the dock with a jig and mealworm. 6 of us where out on the dock and everyone of us caught crappie. Our "Bonnie Lake" fisherman at the resort couldn't find the cappie at Bonnie, so they stayed at camp and caught way bigger crappie at Downs. And had a good time too!! Last year the dock produced crappie but they were to small. This year 9" is no problem. Can't wait till my next trip. The perch should be coming on really soon, I caught one at the dock that made a 12" bass look small. The bass are hitting too. The water temp was at 52 in the morning, warming up to 60 during the warmer days.

Hey Ron and Darla , very very nice, I know how you like to catch the crappie. I just wished you would have called me and I was there with you two. I will be there with you in the very near future and have 12 days scheduled for Memorial weekend. Take care.

I forgot to say, I bet that new dock was great to fish off from, have to say that everyone that helped with the new dock did a excellent job, its beautiful and thanks to all.

Kris, the dock is beautiful to fish from, the wind was blowing and never did I feel I was going to fall in. There were several of us out there fishing, and you know I would have loved to be out in the boat fishing, but the wind was too strong and the dock was just perfect. We were catching crappie all through out the day, early morning, noon, and evening. Hope the weather warms up for Memorial weekend, see ya then.
