I took my three-year old son on his first hike to Boardman Lake. Obviously, this wasn't going to be an intense fishing experience. We still managed to land one 8 inch brookie on a parachute adams during the middle of the day. There were several fish rising just out of our reach, mainly dinks but there appeared to be some of decent size. There was no one else fishing, and only a few small groups of hikers passed through during our two hour lunch/fishing stop. We also fished a gold mepps spinner on my son's spin cast rod. There were many bugs on the water, including a hatch of large, gray mayflies that went about size 12. I think this lake needs to be fished mid-week, with a possible overnight stay. The ease of the hike and the convenience will bring me back for sure, but the three year old may have to stay home!
