I'm hoping someone with knowledge of this little lake can help me out. I've caught largemouth in here before, though I was skunked today (I tried because the lake heats up quickly -- surface temp was 60+). Each time I go to the buoy in the center of the lake, my fish finder goes nuts. In a radius of 10 or 20 feet from the buoy, I mark fish throughout the bottom 1/3 of the lake. The overall depth is about 50 feet at that spot. I've tried jigs, tubes, rubber worms and live worms over there and never had any action at all. I assume it's mostly perch holed up down there ... but I dunno. Anyone?

Could be crappie? I ran into something like this on Pine lake last year. A whole mess of stuff on the fishfinder through the entire water column in about 15 feet of water and about 15 feet in diameter. Thought it was weeds, but couldn't see anything when I looked over the side, so ran my senko through it and something would pick it up and run with it every time, but I could never get a hook set, so figure it was perch or crappie, but my bet was on crappie because I thought pearch would have been able to handle the hook I had on. I was targeting bass, so moved on after 5-6 throws.

I bet your picking up the line the buoy is secured with. If you have the fish ID turned on, switch it off if possible. You'll get a much better view of what is under the water that way.

Have you seen any crappie from the lake. I tried that lake from the dock and it was tough fishing.

As far as I have tried, Phantom does not have crappie, though another lake near by (on the blueberry farm, 148th St) does. 3 years ago Phantom was my secret lake, with huge bass late February through late March from the pier. I also fished it later on the season with a small boat, but then I would catch mainly small perch. 2 years ago the bass population crashed, and I stop fishing there. Any one knows how it's currently?

Last year when I was there, A local that was jogging in the park told me he saw a large mouth bass the probably weighed a couple of pounds caught there.

The LM bass are shallow not deeper than 8 foot most are in 2-5 foot of water. Fish the shore line and any cover; Logs, Docks. ect. Now is the time for the pigs, use large baits 10-12 in worms and 3/4 oz jigs with big trailors. Good luck! HAWG HUNTER

I've caught 2-3lb bass in Phantom, but not for maybe three years. I hit the lake once or twice a year to see what's up, usually with one of my kids. The last couple of years, we had trouble even finding perch.
