Met up with Shawn in the morning to float tube Island for some early season bass. Started off with a jig (blk n blu w/ sweet beaver trailer) and switched to plastics (t-rigged bushhog n shad senko) later. Shawn flyfished for trout with no takers and we saw no surface activity around the lake except one riser near the launch earlier in the morning. I took my depth finder out to meter the lake a little more and ran across some huge blips right in the middle of the lake. They were hugging the bottom in 25-30ft of water. Definitely the biggest marks I have seen metering Island. Must be the 10-12 lbers (trout) they released from previous years. The bass fishing was dead slow with the overcast skies and cold weather. The surface water temp was 47. I fished the whole lake in various locations and depths. The only bite I got all day came when the sun broke through and hit the NW shoreline near the park by the pad field. The fish hit a shad colored t-rigged senko and when I went to set the hook nothing was there. Either a dink, or short bite. The wind picked up and it got nippy fast around noon. Headed off the water cold to the bone and frustrated. The water needs to warm a bit and that sun needs to hang out a little longer. Until next time, hope to see ya on the water.

Maybe it was those 10lbs bass in that 25-30 feet of water!

That would definitely be nice. I put a d-shot yamamoto 3in. cut tail worm right on top of them with the same hopes. Nothing. I wouldn't rule it out, I saw about 6 in the same area with a couple of smaller ones mixed in. Dead center of the lake too. I wish I had a couple fat crawlers to send down. Next time.

Good that you got out. We'll have to wet a line soon
