I would like to start out by saying it was an awsome day on the water. My soon-to-be-6yrs-old son and I launched the boat at the American Lake North Park boat launch at 9am. We headed out to this lake for the first time. We were north of the island in 60ft of water. We were marking fish in the top 10ft to 15ft of water. I sent a set up down and within 15mins, I had a huge take down. I never saw what it was. By the time I had it 10ft away from the boat, it came unhooked. I believe that was the One! To make a long story short, we then checked out the far south of the lake. We had no luck so around noon we headed back to where that first fish was lost. Within 5mins, take down! A nice bow to follow... 10mins later; another bow and cutt! Sunny day, my son reeled one up, it doesn't get any better!

Quite frankly, we DO practice C & R with the kids. This given day, my son and I wanted to have a fish fry, since it was his FIRST catch. Old grey dog, is this a crime at American Lake? In my post I mentioned it was my first time out there. From my understanding, you can keep your catch limit at this particular lake.

Good job, the north side of island has always been fairly good for fishin. Next time out there try fishing along the V A hospital, we have had some of the best days there. Still fishin is the best method of fishin there, but must have double anchors and chum to bring the fish in. Bills boathouse sells chum. If u have any questions let me know, i can help anyone catch a lot a fish out there. U can catch kokanees still fishin if you are in the right area, very technical though.

Right on james griffin thanks for the info. I might have to try that still fishing stuff I just dont have the patience sit in 1 area to long
and for the kokanees are you trolling for them or also still fishing? thanks !

I still fish for the kokanees in 45 to 50 feet of water, i will start still fishin next month when the water warms up and the trout go deeper. If u ever go to bill boathouse ask dave (the owner) about us (the griffins) and he will have much to say about us. I try to help them out as much as i can with fishing reports so people will go down there to fish. I lived right next to the boathouse 20 years ago so i know a lot about that lake. Let me know next time u go out there and i will give u some pointers.

nice thank you for this report,i have always herd that there were trout in this lake,but the only thing i have ever caught were bass large and small mouth,and many rock bass perch and blue gill, the rock bass and blue gill taste extra nice
