Fished Rufus on Monday, fog made it difficult to get going but once we got our bearings we headed up to the shoreline between the lower pens and the rough launch below them. Hit the 15 lbr right off the bat, made it a good day despite not alot of catching. Got the nine pounder on the way back down by pump #3. Got 2 more around 4 lbs in between. Fished from 8am to noon to get the 4 fish. Gave it a 4 due to the big one. Big fish caught trolling #13 perch rapalas and the 2 smaller fish were caught casting black marabou jigs. Tight lines!

Thanks for the info, means I need to bring more goose decoys. Any idea what is going on with the water temp with this warmer weather?

Great report Tredfish, and an awsome catch. With weights like that, not catching alot takes on a whole different feeling. LOL. Thanks for posting your trip. Sounds encouraging for the lower end of the lake. Hey poacherpatrol, The water temps were holding in the 39* range liast week-end, so the warmer weather isn't having an immediate affect. Good luck tredfish on the next outings, and hope the blast and cast is a successful run poacherpatrol.

Were you trolling the Rapalas on the surface? 3-5 ft?

No weight, I use a small bead chain swivel which really helps for line twist. I think they dive 7-8 ft when you get them back there 80 feet or so.

What a brute! Full tale and all. Are you trolling fast or slow? Thanks for the report. Andy

Trolling between 2.0 and 2.5 with lots of speed changes. The one on the left is the 9 lbr the one on the right was 15.

What is the best place to launch @ Rufus?
do you need a Tribal permit?

I launch at Chief Joseph dam because I prefer to fish the lower pool and the lower set of pens. If you want to fish the upper pens it is easiest to launch at Seaton's Grove, but there is more current up there so you need a little more motor to get back up the river. You don't need a tribal permit to fish from a boat or launch your boat but you do if you are going to fish the east side of the lake from the bank.

You make me jealous, supposed to be over there this weekend going after 'em. Those are both beauties! Have you been fishing it much this winter? I have heard it has been a bit slow cause it has not been as cold as usual?? Do you know if the fishing is still good come the end of March?
