Wanted to check out Goodwin since the big "takeover" by Snohomish County Parks, the boat launch fee dropped $2 that's a good start, but they posted no parking signs along the hill just above the lower lot and that stinks cuz that was a great place to snag a parking spot...oh well, hopefully they keep a handle on vandalism and it shouldn't be an issue.
Started the day in a pretty good wind out of the S at about 10-15mph, so I fished the east shore along the rocky point at the entrance to the second cove. Good news that the spawning season was a huge success as there are 4-6" smallmouth EVERYWHERE!! Little grub tail eaters, I found that if you let them go ahead and peck at your bait, but kept working it without setting the hook, that they would give up and you would nab a little bit bigger fish, I don't know if this was due to the bait getting deeper, or the larger fish just moved in to show them how it was done?.
I caught fish on grubs, crankbaits and assorted plastics fished texas style out to 20 feet but couldn't manage anything over 2lbs... Water temps were between 67 and 69 degrees throughout the day, and it poured for about 90 minutes in the afternoon. I covered alot of the lake including every rocky area I could think of and again just smaller bass. The best area I found was on the flat just southwest of the state park on the west shore. This flat extends out a ways from shore with scattered rocks and then drops off pretty good to about 15-18 feet.
