I went down to the dock to swim before bed time. Man it helps me sleep good when I get nice and cool before bed. Well, my wife followed me down with her top water plug on one rod and a small jig on her other pole. I jumped in and I could see the little smallmouth under the dock. With me in the water splashing around they were still willing to attack her jig worm combo. She caught 5 smallmouth and one squaw in an hour. She lost about that many too. One was a nice little 2 Lb smallie that shook the hook right at the dock. I tossed the Smith Stick on top for 10 minutes with no results before we headed up the hill to watch Americas Got Talent. One thing for certain is my wife has some serious bass fishing talent. She has been fishing with me for the past 8 years of marriage and now she can fish with the best of em!

Scott, How's the fishing out at Long going these days? I have mostly seen and heard reports that it is very slow out there. I haven't fished Long much this year because the pike have been biting so well. The pike have slowed a little for me now that it has gotten so hot. I am considering heading out to Long and looking for some good smallies. Happy fishing.

AJ's Dad: The fishing has been consistent for the smaller fish. Atleast for my family. Last year I had 10+ fish in the 5 Lb class by August. This year I have only caught 3 over 5 Lbs. We did go down and fish/swim for 20 minutes again last night. My wife caught 2 smallies and my son also caught 2. The best method for us has been finesse fishing with light line. The fish have been running 12-16 inches with an ocassional 3 lb fish. The crappie fishing has been the best it has been for me in several years with many 12-16 inch fish. Even one 19 incher! Hey take care and maybe I will see you on the water?

Is there a dock to fish from for kids out at Long Lake? If so, where?

davejay111: Yes there is at the DNR campground at mile marker 29. You could also fish the shoreline just above Tum Tum along hwy 291.
