Decided to try once more. I refused to leave smelling like a skunk! ha ha

Launched this time, and acting on some intel from a fisherman at the gas station...who wasn't trying to sell me a chartruese and white spinnerbait (lol), I headed straight for the mouth of Crab Creek! Upon arriving I found two other bass boats working the area, so I picked a spot and started fishing. The night before I cut off everything I had tied on all 7 rods, and tied on nothing but crankbaits in various colors and depths, my goal was to fish the main lake and the drop off out in front of the dunes until something worked!

On cast number two with a shad colored Rapala DT6, I caught the smallie in the pick! Finally! On cast number 10 I caught his twin! I switched my DT6 over to the same color pattern as the 10 and began working the small islands out in front of the mouth of Crab Creek. I would cast right up against the brush with the DT6 work it out over 8 feet of water or so, then move out and cover deeper water with the DT10. The 6 ended up being the more productive of the two, so I stuck with that mostly. I would fish the "shadier" side of the brushy islands and any drop offs I could find.

On one cast, the crankbait hit in about a foot of water and a fish blew up on it but missed! I tied on a Rapala Skitter Pop in a similar color and left the area for a bit, when I came back, on my third cats BOOM! I set the hook, but didn't want to snap my 8lb test so I didn't rail him...he swam along the brush for about two seconds and came off.

By 10-11am the bite had really slowed, so I moved over towards the State Park only this time I stayed out where the bottom rolls off into 20 feet. I would cast up into the 6-8 foot range and bring my DT10 back out over the drop. This produced the only walleye of the trip. It also produced a couple more smallies, and one big fat crappie I lost at the boat!

I was off the water by 3pm and grabbed some lunch and headed home....with one pitstop along the way.....the Columbia River at Vantage.....never fished that before and figured I would while the temps dropped before towing the boat home!

I'll definately be back to the Potholes Resevoir, it's just tooooo good of a fishery, I will just wait a month or two for the algae blooms to all run their course and the temps to cool a bit.
