After leaving Kitsap Lake, Mike and I went up to fairly close Wildcat Lake. There was only rig in the WDFW public access area and he was a trout angler. The weather was still fairly cool as we launched. With Mike at the helm, we started fishing the clear, nearly weedless waters. The first strike came at the north end where the big tree is in the water. I hooked a nice bass on a jig but the fish shook the hook as it thrashed on the surface. That fish looked to be about a couple of pounds Mike had a hook up on a crankbait but that fish also shook the hook. As we went down the east shoreling with a breeze pushing us, I asked Mike to slow as much as possible as we approached one of my favorite old docks. Mike made a couple casts but had no strikes. As we went by the dock, I cast a blue/black jig and hopped along the edge of the dock. I had a nice strike and set the hook. As the pole arced Mike reached for his video camera and started shooting. As the fish surfaced I noticed another bass about the same size following it -- both about 3 pounds. As Mike shot video, I left the fish thrashing in the water instead of boating it. Sure enough, he shook the hook. I would have released him anyway but I would have liked to weighed and measured him because he was close to being a new PB for that lake. Later, Mike told me that the action of that fish was lost on his camera. I guess I won't be the star when he posts his Wildcat Lake video. Anyway, the fishing was great as usual but the catching was lacking. By about noon the sun was putting out a lot of BTU's so we called it a day. It was a very nice day on the water with a good fishing buddy. Mike fishes hard all the time.
